Fear of singing, A Cappella in a HUGE church and last minute bookings.

Gig Diary: 12th February, St Peter's RC Church and The Hill Byres Rd, Glasgow

Hello everyone!

Last weekend I had a last minute booking to play at a Christening and also to play at the party afterwards (start the after parties early folks!).

John contacted me one week before the event through PopTop, a really cool website to find musicians.  We had a few emails back and fourth and once all the paper work and deposit was arranged I was booked in for the gig.

As a side note, last minute bookings are really welcome!  If you realise you'd like some live music for your event just go for it and get in touch.  Remember, most musicians know loads of other musicians and are always happy to recommend!

On the day, I arrived at the Church around 1pm and to get myself all set up.  I don't get to play in Churches as often as you would think.  It depends on the occasion (and religion of course!) but more and more people seem to get married in other locations and venues.  So it was such a pleasure to play music in such a grand and huge building.

The christening started at 2pm and the service was really beautiful with loads of folk attending.

I sang three Hymns:

Christ be Beside Me
Ave Maria (in latin, A Capella, oh man I was SO nervous!)

The reverb was intense!  Getting to sing a cappella with that much space around me was SUCH a treat.  (Thanks John!!)

After the service ended we hot footed over it to The Hill on Byers Road for the after Christening.  I set up in the corner and played 2 x 45 minute sets of covers as the family relaxed, had a drink and a bite to eat.  I finished up at 5pm and, as I live relatively close, I was home and in my PJs for 6pm!  Perfect Sunday gig.

Thank you so much John for booking me!  I really enjoyed meeting you and your family and I wish you all the best for your Daughter.
